How can contemporary art provoke democracy? 
Harold Offeh talks about his recent collaboration with The People Speak for the project Peckham TV. Here, both artists worked with Bells Garden Community Centre to develop ideas for a future Peckham as part of a live broadcast on Peckham Square in June 2008.

This talk will be part of an exhibition of recently commissioned projects by Peckham Space. The exhibition will feature Peckham TV and Peckham Street Training at the Foyer Space from 27 February to 19 March 2009.

How can contemporary art reclaim the public realm through play? Jessica Thom talks about her residency on Sceaux Gardens estate as part of the South London Gallery’s Making Play project. She has been working closely with children and families in a former shop on the estate, exploring how play shapes their experience of the local environment through a series of games, mapping activities and events.

Peckham Library: The People Speak & Demos

The People Speak will facilitate an open discussion with representatives from Tate Britain and the think tank Demos addressing the wider themes of art in the public realm. Do you think contemporary art can provoke democracy? Can play help reclaim the public realm? The structure of this talk actively invites your contribution to these proposed questions.
