Relay

Relay is the third in the Bright Series of publications, aimed at platforming the work of in the CCW Graduate School. Relay works through cross-course collaboration between MRes Arts Practice, MA Art Theory and MA Curating – courses based at Wimbledon College and Chelsea College respectively. In addition, the publication has worked alongside the Peckham Space public programme, focussing on David Cotterrell’s work Slipstream.

Relay relates to an intelligence-gathering and transmission exercise. Participants in the relay all agreed to form teams. A chain of letters was started within each team by an initiating member who then passed a message on to the next member. Once the chain was complete, members of the team went on to comment further on each others’ messages. A series of ‘correspondences’ was formed as a background to the chain with different team members discussing various issues and taking differing positions in relation to the game.

Relay will be launched on 24 June 2011, 6-8:30pm at Peckham Space with a presentation from students from Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon Colleges at the University of the Arts London.  The launch coincides with David Cotterrell’s exhibition, Slipstream.  This evening is also a Last Friday with over 90 South London Art Map venues open ‘til late.  This event is part of the public programme for Slipstream, Peckham Space’s fourth commission for its new venue which maps social, geographical and personal histories of North Peckham.
